Legends of the Erne

The Erne and its Legends is a classic book on salmon fishing in Ireland. Written by the Reverend Newland in about 1850, it must be one of the most amusing books about salmon fishing ever written - but the light-hearted tone conceals the fact that Newland listed some of the most important patterns in the history of Irish salmon fishing. These flies - including patterns like the Parson - influenced generations of salmon fly dressers and changed the way that we think about salmon flies.

Some of the flies are featured in Andrew's book The History of Fly Fishing, which is the most comprehensive history of fly fishing available today. You can order the book by visiting this link.
