A successful Cheltenham tackle dealer, Ogden was at the cutting edge of the development of floating patterns in the mid-nineteenth century. This first video shows how to tie Ogden's version of a fly that was already old when he knew it, but which was so successful that he ended up being banned from at least one fishery after he used it.

James Ogden is also featured in Andrew's book The History of Fly Fishing, which is the most comprehensive history of fly fishing available today. You can order the book by visiting this link.
